You have arrived at the relaunch of Another Time, Another Place, a debut coffee table photography book by photographer, Bethany Eden Jacobson.
"Another Time, Another Place" is an homage to New York City in the 1980s, when it was raw, chaotic, and alive with possibility. Downtown Manhattan was a place where art, music, performance, and nightlife collided—igniting a cultural revolution that still echoes today.
I was there. A native New Yorker living in a Chambers Street loft working as a photographer documenting the artists, musicians, and mavericks who challenged the status quo and defined the era.
April 28th, Day 14 --WE HAVE ACHIEVED OUR GOAL. I AM EXTREMELY GRATEFUL TO ALL THE CONTRIBUTORS. I am introducing a STRETCH GOAL OF $10,000, which is to cover paper, printing costs, hot foil on the cover, scanning, and shipping.
As an incentive moving forward, anyone who buys two books will receive an 8 1/2 x 11 print of your choice with your order. A value of $175. If you already contributed and you increase your contribution by buying another book or increase your contribution, I will add a signed 8 1/2" x 11 print to your order. You can choose which image, so if you love Iggy Pop or Futura 2000, a signed limited edition print of them can be yours. This offer is only available while the Kickstarter is running!

The book captures a fleeting moment when art, music, and street culture collided in transformative ways. Featuring iconic innovators including Jean-Michel Basquiat, Patti Astor, Futura 2000, Rammellzee, Iggy Pop, and David Wojnarowicz.
This Kickstarter campaign isn’t just about funding a book—it’s about preserving a radical chapter of New York City’s downtown history before it disappeared.
The downtown scene was unpredictable and fertile. Patti Astor’s Fun Gallery broke barriers by introducing graffiti artists Jean-Michel Basquiat and Rammellzee to the wider art world. The Goode Brothers’ Area nightclub reinvented nightlife as immersive installation art.
Another Time, Another Place reveals not just what downtown looked like, but what it felt like to be there—wild, fragile and raw.
The book will include my color photographs, personal recollections, and text by Jeffrey Deitch (founder of Deitch Projects), Hugo Vitrani (curator of Palais Tokyo, Paris) and Carlo McCormick (writer, critic, curator).

Iggy Pop on Chambers Street, 1986
Iggy Pop is known as the "godfather" of punk music. I was shooting for a British magazine called Blitz. I had never photographed him before. It was fall of 1986 and his album "Blah, Blah, Blah" was about to be released. His publicist and Iggy climbed the five steep flights. When he arrived, he introduced himself as Jim Osterberg from Detroit, to which I responded Bethany Jacobson from the Upper Westside. He laughed, and that broke the ice. I had a staircase in my loft that led directly to the roof. Iggy picked up a 2x4 piece of lumber and carried it upstairs. I said, "Why don't you jump up on the divider between the buildings?" and then he struck this amazing pose, which was pure magic. This image was not the one the magazine chose to publish, but for me it was the one.
I am seeking $6,500 to offset the costs of graphic design, printing, distribution and publicity. The actual costs are more than triple the funding goal. The more I can raise the more pages and extras I can include in the book. Last year, I published my first photography book, Ode To A Cemetery, partly funded by Kickstarter. Ultimately, I would very much like to exceed the goal to pay for the scanning of the transparencies, printing costs, graphic design, and publicity. Your support will bring you the first copies of this limited edition along with many other unique rewards.
I am seeking your support to bring this book to life as both a vital cultural record and a deeply personal testament. At a moment when younger generations engage with this period largely through nostalgia and secondhand accounts, authentic preservation feels especially urgent. This project offers something rare: a truthful, lived perspective that honors the past while making it accessible and meaningful for a new audience.
