The flame lasts three minutes. Sometimes less. Then it vanishes into the darkness, taking everything that happened with it.

A 30 × 30 cm fine art photobook, printed only if this campaign succeeds.

For the past ten years, I have photographed fire arts, not only at international gatherings across the UK, Italy, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands, but in the places where burners (as fire artists call themselves) meet every week: The beach in London where sessions end as the Thames tide comes in, a small square in the heart of Antwerp, the seafront in Marseille, and the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, where I go almost every week and where it all began.

Work recognised six times at the International Photography Awards (IPA) and named Best Fire Photographer by 35Awards in 2025.

Not the flames, not the spectacle, what happens between people and fire. Those moments when a person creates an intimate relationship with the flame and starts existing differently. Through it, something deep rises to the surface.

Fire manipulation has existed for centuries. And yet, no photographer has ever dedicated an entire book to it, treated with the same artistic rigor as dance, theater, or concert photography.

This book is that first gesture.

But it will only exist if this campaign succeeds.

My name is Yann Delcambre. A professional photographer (Maison des artistes), I have been awarded six times at the International Photography Awards between 2021 and 2025, including a 1st Prize in 2023. In 2025, 35Awards named me Best Fire Photographer and Best Cultural Events Photographer.

About fifteen years ago, I needed to open up, to express something. I started photography. It all began one evening at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris. I met Burno, he's there every Saturday, the guardian of the place, always present to welcome fire practitioners from around the world passing through Paris. That evening, he welcomed me too.

That's where I made my first images. And where I understood what I really wanted to photograph.

I work with the light of the flame. Bodies only appear in my images because they are with the fire. Nothing is added. Everything comes from the flame.

Since then, I've traveled across Europe to find this community again. Gatherings, nights, encounters. People I may never see again, and moments that existed only once.

This book brings together ten years of that journey.

This book is not a catalogue. It is an object.

Large square format, 30 × 30 cm. Around 100 pages built from more than ten years of work.

Photographing fire is technically extreme. The exposure range is immense, the flame generates intense highlights while the surrounding environment stays plunged in darkness. No studio. No comfort. Only the unpredictable. Every image is the result of a precise balance.

Printing these images demands the same rigor.

I chose H-UV offset printing to achieve deep blacks and a faithful rendering of the extreme colors of the flames. The thick coated paper gives the images substance without losing the subtle tones in the dark areas. With a subject like fire, everything lies in these details.

The book follows a progression. From intimate scenes to the most monumental performances. From faces lit by a glowing ember to eruptions of flame.

This book is meant to be experienced physically. To feel the weight of the pages. To see the depth of the blacks. To stand face to face with the fire and with the humanity it reveals.

Kickstarter is all or nothing. If the goal is not reached by May 20, nothing is printed, nothing is charged, and these images stay where they have always been: on a hard drive, invisible.

Supporting this campaign is not buying a product that already exists. It is deciding that something should exist.

This is a hands-on experience, not a classroom. You will be behind your camera, in front of a real flame, working the light as it moves and shifts — with guidance on how to read it, how to expose for it, and how to build an image around it.

Throughout the session, I will share the approach I use in my own work : observing the behaviour of fire, choosing the right moment, managing long exposure, and finding the frame that lets the flame speak.

The session is supervised and takes place under safe conditions.

USE OF FUNDS

A photobook doesn't happen by itself. Every step has a cost, and every euro goes directly to the quality of the final object.

The initial goal is set at 5,000 euros, the minimum threshold to produce the book under professional conditions.

The campaign will fund:

Manufacturing, binding, and finishing
Production of prints and related editions
Packaging and shipping
Platform commission, taxes, and charges

If the campaign exceeds this goal, it will allow us to increase the print run and enrich the object further.

The goal is not only to produce this book. It is to produce it at the level of quality it deserves.

La flamme dure trois minutes. Parfois moins. Puis elle s'évanouit dans l'obscurité, emportant avec elle tout ce qui s'est passé.

Un livre photo d'art au format 30 × 30 cm, qui ne sera imprimé que si cette campagne réussit.

J'ai passé dix ans à photographier les arts du feu, pas seulement dans les grandes conventions à travers le Royaume-Uni, l'Italie, l'Allemagne, la Belgique et les Pays-Bas, mais aussi dans les endroits où les burners (comme s'appellent entre eux les artistes du feu) se retrouvent chaque semaine : la plage de Londres où les sessions se terminent à marée haute sur la Tamise, une petite place au cœur d'Anvers, le front de mer à Marseille, et le Palais de Tokyo à Paris, où je vais presque toutes les semaines et où tout a commencé.

Un travail reconnu six fois aux concours International Photography Awards (IPA) et désigné Best Fire Photographer par les 35Awards en 2025.

Pas les flammes, pas le spectacle, ce qui se passe entre les gens et le feu. Ces moments où une personne crée une relation intime avec la flamme et commence à exister autrement. À travers elle, quelque chose de profond remonte à la surface.

La manipulation du feu existe depuis des siècles. Et pourtant, aucun photographe n'y a jamais consacré un livre entier, traité avec la même exigence artistique que la danse, le théâtre ou la photographie de scène.

Ce livre est ce premier geste.

Mais il n'existera que si cette campagne aboutit.

Je m'appelle Yann Delcambre. Photographe professionnel (Maison des artistes), primé six fois aux International Photography Awards entre 2021 et 2025, dont un 1er Prix en 2023. En 2025, les 35Awards m'ont désigné Best Fire Photographer et Best Cultural Events Photographer.

Il y a une quinzaine d'années, j'avais besoin de m'ouvrir, de m'exprimer. J'ai commencé la photographie. Tout a commencé un soir au Palais de Tokyo à Paris. J'ai rencontré Burno, il est là tous les samedis, le gardien du lieu toujours présent pour accueillir les pratiquants du feu du monde entier de passage à Paris. Ce soir-là, il m'a accueilli.

C'est là que j'ai fait mes premières images. Et que j'ai compris ce que je voulais vraiment photographier.

Je travaille avec la lumière de la flamme. Les corps n'apparaissent dans mes images que parce qu'ils sont avec le feu. Rien n'est ajouté. Tout vient de la flamme.

Depuis, j'ai traversé l'Europe pour retrouver cette communauté. Des rassemblements, des nuits, des rencontres. Des gens que je ne reverrai peut-être jamais, et des moments qui n'ont existé qu'une seule fois.

Ce livre rassemble dix ans de ce chemin.

Ce livre n'est pas un catalogue. C'est un objet.

Grand format carré, 30 × 30 cm. Environ 100 pages construites à partir de plus de dix ans de travail.

Photographier le feu est techniquement extrême. Les écarts d'exposition sont immenses, la flamme génère des hautes lumières intenses pendant que l'environnement reste plongé dans l'obscurité. Pas de studio. Pas de confort. Seulement l'imprévisible. Chaque image est le résultat d'un équilibre précis.

Imprimer ces images demande la même exigence.

J'ai choisi l'impression offset H-UV pour obtenir des noirs profonds et une restitution fidèle des couleurs extrêmes des flammes. Le papier couché, épais, donne de la matière aux images sans perdre les nuances dans les zones sombres. Avec un sujet comme le feu, tout se joue dans ces détails.

Le livre suit une progression. Des scènes intimes aux performances les plus monumentales. Des visages éclairés par une braise aux explosions de flammes.

Ce livre est pensé pour être vécu physiquement. Sentir le poids des pages. Voir la profondeur des noirs. Être face au feu, et à l'humanité qu'il révèle.

Kickstarter fonctionne en tout ou rien. Si l'objectif n'est pas atteint avant le 20 mai, rien n'est imprimé, rien n'est prélevé, et ces images restent là où elles ont toujours été : sur un disque dur, invisibles.

Un livre photo ne s'improvise pas. Chaque étape a un coût, et chaque euro va directement à la qualité de l'objet final.

L'objectif initial est fixé à 5 000 euros, le seuil nécessaire pour produire le livre dans des conditions professionnelles.
