Help Us Build a Home for Honeycake in New York City

There’s no place in New York City devoted entirely to honeycake — a layered cake unlike any other, made slowly from hand-rolled wafers, caramelized honey, and soft cream that melts into every bite. This cake takes time, care, and patience, and its absence in the city inspired us to create a home for it.

Through baking and sharing it, we realized the city was missing more than just this cake — it needed a space built around celebration. We’ve always loved marking life’s moments, big or small, and wanted to create a place where ordinary days could feel special.

Equally important is our appreciation for fresh, seasonal ingredients and a rotating menu with limited quantities. Collaborating with local New York City makers and artisans allows each cake to feel alive, organic, and inviting — a reflection of the care that goes into both the food and the space.

These three elements — the unique cake, the joy of celebration, and seasonal ingredients — became the heart of Honeycakes: a place to savor the cake, celebrate life, and feel connected.

Five years of Honeycakes 

The first time we had honeycake in Australia, it was soft, sweet, and sticky — unlike anything we’d ever tasted. Five years ago, we couldn’t find it anywhere in New York City, so we decided to take it into our own hands and bake it ourselves. We started making it for a friend’s pop up, and every time someone tried it, their delight and surprise encouraged us to take another step.

Over the years, we hosted pop ups wherever we could find space. They sold out time and time again, and each one became a glimpse of what it could look like if we devoted more time. The feedback, encouragement, and excitement showed us that Honeycakes could be more than a fun side hobby — it could be a permanent place for the city to come together and celebrate.

Eventually, we made the leap to pursue Honeycakes full time, leaving our day jobs in tech to see if this dream could grow into something real. From late nights in a small brooklyn kitchen to sold-out pop ups across the city, that journey laid the foundation for Honeycakes: slow-made, thoughtful, and built around joy, connection, and celebration.

What We're Building

We’re creating more than a cake shop — a space that feels like your mom’s kitchen or your sister’s living room: warm, familiar, and welcoming time and time again. Somewhere you feel celebrated — where you can unwind, leave a part of yourself you no longer want to carry, trade it for something sweet, and leave feeling refreshed.

At the heart of this space is a simple intention: to have something delightful waiting for you, to make room for connection, and to bring a sense of wonder back into the city. The space will have:

• A seasonal Honeycake menu – a rotating selection of limited flavours made with fresh, seasonal ingredients shaped by what’s local and at its peak.
• A place where you feel celebrated, seen, and uplifted – warm and welcoming where you can come by, share a slice, and leave feeling lighter than when you arrived.
• A home for creativity and collaborations – where local NYC makers and artisans across food, design and art can co-create through shared ideas and seasonal collaborations.
