In this project we plan to continue working with suppliers of paint brushes to create custom sized wooden miniature painting brushes for hobbyists who wish to have control and quality in their painting tasks at an affordable price. Our brushes have had the bristles set with our custom lengths and sizes in order to fit the needs of miniature painter's model scales of 20 mm or higher. Each comes with a plastic protective covering and a metal lid to protect the bristles.

Once again our brushes will be made with wooden handles that are designed to feel comfortable and balanced in your hand, no matter how long you’re painting for. The handles are crafted short and wide to give you a firm grip while you do your painting. Whether you’re working on a fine details, applying base coats, or drawing free hand designs, these brushes are meant to offer the stability and ease of handling you need.

Our brush handles are custom sized to be shorter and thicker to allow for great balance and grip.

In our research in designing these custom brushes, we looked for options that were durable, flexible, and resistant to shedding. The brush bristles are soft, yet strong and they will not shed, bend, or break. You won’t have to worry about stray hairs leaving unwanted marks, and they’re tough enough to withstand even the most rigorous strokes without bending or breaking. The bristles on these brushes will maintain their form, ensuring you get a smooth, evenly covered, streak-free finish with every single use.

All models and shields seen in this campaign were painted using our brushes.

Each prototype brush has been tested for many hours to assure quality and we’ve paid attention to every detail to ensure that our brushes perform well from the first stroke to the last. Our aim is to have brushes that last over long periods of painting.

With your support, we’ll be able to bring this second project, our Model Painting Specialized Custom Brushes part 2 to life, and into the hands of miniature painters everywhere. Our aim is that you can enjoy the joy of painting without common frustrations that come with expensive brushes. Your pledges will help us create these brushes with the best materials we've found and keep them at high standards with affordable prices.

Brush Pledge Options

With the following brush pledge options you will find different lengths and shapes for each head of bristles on every brush. All brushes can be used for different functions and can create various results that will fit your painting needs.

The following picture examples show some brushes from our last paintbrush campaign as well as comparisons to new brushes from this campaign. We are only offering new brushes this campaign as pledge rewards!

18mm Liner Brush

The longest liner brush we have put together draws long, seamless strokes across a surface, but can also be used for quick and easy shorthand work if one requires more space between the brush handle and the painting surface.

We drew simple lines in a pattern over a shield, then connected each point to create diamond shapes, followed by adding crosses between each in white to create a unique design.

This example from our first project could also be achieved.

16mm Liner Brush

This is our second longest liner brush and is great to use for drawing long lines and dragging long strokes over an area. In our second project, we adapted its use to create curves instead of simply straight lines to show an alternative use.

In this shield design we dotted and mapped out an area, then simply drew long curves between each marked spot. In this way we created a sort of weave pattern.

This example from our first project could also be achieved.

Spotter Brush

This brush is our shortest yet and its bristles are thinly clumped together, making it a little wider than our liner brushes. This brush is good for getting into, as the name suggest, spots, and working with free hand work or finer details.

We used our Spotter Brush to draw and fill in a simple cross - a simple white cross was painted out and filled in, then outlined it with black.

Small Angle Brush

Like our Angle Brush, the Smaller Angle Brush allows you to get in on edges and thin lines. Ours is slightly fluted, which allows one to press and drag more paint if one wishes, allowing painters to control their angles and strokes.

On our shield we drew different crossing straight lines, then angled the edge of the brush to draw diagonal stripes between each crossover. We also layered the background with the same brush to show how versatile it can be.

Dry Brush

On this particular brush the bristles are spread out across its end which allow for more paint to be absorbed. When adding paint and then removing an excess, it allows for a large area that one can do the simple dry brushing technique with.

As seen in our campaign, we've base coated a shield and simply dry brushed in various directions over top of it. The dry brush effect leaves anything look weathered and allows for quick and easy paint jobs that still pop at a distance.

Crescent Brush

This brush is angled similarly to an angle brush, however an arch, or a dip has been removed within the bristles, to give it a crescent shape. With its design one can apply paint at an angle and create some interesting shapes, but also use its tips for details.

With our example, we simple dragged and layered paint from a point on the shield and drew it towards the edge, then mirrored the same effect on the other side. With its tip, we drew a curved red line to separate the colors.

Base Coat Brush

This brush is larger and slightly more narrow at the top point when compared to our previous projects Filbert brush. It's big size allows for plenty of paint to gather up in the bristles and thus allows for larger areas covered when one basecoats or primes.

With our shields we applied a simple base coat, displaying how much area can be covered with a single stroke. This means more areas will be covered and your paint job will have less streaking as you layer.

Dimensions

Each brush length from the bristle tip to the wood handle end varies and sits between 155-170 mm. Each brush head bristle width and length are listed in the dimensions chart below.

We do our best to keep dimensions consistent, however the numbers may vary slightly.
