Tomb Quest - A New Dungeon-Crawling Musical

What is TombQuest?

TOMB QUEST is a new dungeon-delving musical comedy from StarKid Productions! In a suburban basement, five old friends meet on the night of their friend's funeral, to fulfill his posthumous request: finish the Tomb Quest role-playing campaign they abandoned after high school graduation. This rag-tag party must dig out their old character sheets and descend once more into the labyrinthine tomb of the great necromancer, Terrazon. Monsters and magic will be the least of their worries. Romantic tensions, a bitter grudge, bad role-play, and the fact that nobody quite remembers how the game works will put the journey into peril before the first die is cast. Our heroes will have to rediscover their characters, reforge their bounds of friendship, and shepherd the quest to an end worthy of their fallen friend. TOMB QUEST is a love letter to gaming, old friends, and the creative, chaotic magic that happens when people sit down to build a story together. The quest beckons. Join the party as we descend into Terrazon’s Tomb!

Where can I see TombQuest?

TOMB QUEST will premiere at The Colony theater in Los Angeles for a limited theatrical run July – August 2026. This will be the first (and perhaps only) time audiences can experience the show live! We’ll be offering digital tickets of the show for anyone who can’t make it out this summer to join us in person. And of course, we’ll also release a professionally filmed version of the production on YouTube so that everyone around the world can watch TOMB QUEST for free!

Tomb Quest has an incredible cast and crew of creatives and performers, including: AJ Holmes, Kim Whalen, Curt Mega, Lauren Lopez, Joey Richter, and Corey Dorris! As we reach fundraising milestones we’ll be releasing a series of cast and crew interviews! Below is a graphic tracking what's been unlocked so far:

After each of the cast interviews are unlocked, we’ll also post a short character description, so that you can get to know the party! First up is….

AJ Holmes plays Gary, the group’s Game Master. Passionate and creative, Gary is also an award-winning fantasy author. Unfortunately, a bad case of writer’s block has taken the luster of a once glowing career. The final book in his series is bloated, convoluted, and fifteen years late. For Gary, returning to the Tomb Quest is about more than honoring his departed friend. It’s about proving to himself that he can actually finish something once and for all. Kim Whalen plays Melanie, the bright and cheery heart of the group. Her in-game avatar is Melanor, Holy Knight of the Goddess Amal, which she plays with all the commitment of an aspiring actress. In fact, she is an actress… kind of. Her acting career never quite took off. For Melanie, returning to the Tomb Quest is also about rediscovering a passion she lost long ago. Joey Richter plays Kevin, the group’s loud but lovable jerk. His in-game character is the party’s shadowy Cutthroat, known for hoarding loot, bending rules, and pick-pocketing his friends.  For Kevin, returning to the Tomb Quest is about reconnecting with his former best friend, Sammy. He’s pretty sure that she can’t still be mad at him. After all, she’s killing it at her new job. So in a way, Kevin bankrupting the business they founded was actuallythe best thing that could’ve happened to her! That makes sense, right? Well, it does to Kevin. Curt Mega plays Luke, the shy sweetheart with a surprising knack for roleplay. His in-game avatar is Lucian Heartstring, the party’s roguish, lyre-strumming Swashbuckler. In their past games, Lucian and Melanor had an undeniable romantic chemistry. Since high school, Luke has always wondered if that same chemistry had also applied to himself and Melanie. For Luke, returning to the Tomb Quest is about gaining insight on a romance that never was. Check out Curt's cast interview HERE!

Lauren Lopez plays Sammy, the group’s cynical, moody artist. Her in-game avatar is the Elven Tree-Caller, Samestra the Ancient. Though Sammy’s artistic aspirations were crushed when she finally moved to New York, through sheer determination she’s risen the ranks of an illustrious advertising firm. Being a genuine curmudgeon, Sammy isn’t too keen on some sappy, nostalgic reunion. And she is downright dreading the prospect of seeing a certain former best friend. For Sammy, returning to the Tomb Quest is about getting through the night as painlessly as possible while somehow resisting the urge to murder Kevin. Check out Lauren's cast interview HERE!

Corey Dorris plays Ben. Though he's recently passed, his presence hangs heavy over the gaming table. His in-game avatar was Benedict Blazebeard, the party’s fire-wielding wizard. Being in and out of hospitals for most of his youth, Ben credits his friends, and that old game, Tomb Quest, for giving him some of the happiest times of his life. Living well past the doctor’s predictions, Ben reaches his end with a sense of fulfillment that has somehow eluded his high school friends. It is Ben’s posthumous request that calls the party back to the table. He seems to have had some knowing intuition that his friends were meant to finish the quest. Producing live theater in Los Angeles is expensive. Believe it or not, even if we raise our minimum Kickstarter goal, we’ll still be working on a shoestring budget. Any extra money we raise will go towards additional production costs, more elaborate costumes, lighting, sets, and increased pay for the cast & crew. Which brings us to our STRETCH GOALS...

Stretch Goals

This year, we are putting the campaign in ‘Kickstarter campaign’, with each fundraising milestone represented by a monster-filled floor of Terrazon’s Tomb! As each goal is conquered, we'll descend to deeper and more dangerous depths, inevitably leading to the Great Necromancer himself! Can we, as a community, pool our loot to conquer this Tomb!? Remember, each fundraising milestone will enable us to incorporate more production elements and better support the artists bringing TOMB QUEST to life. The more we raise, the better the show can be!
