Why I Invented The Post Host™

I would imagine, like my wife and I, most of us have a love-hate relationship with shepherd hooks.

We love the beauty of hanging baskets and enjoy setting out winter hanging feeders. But, again like most of us, we hate that they have significant limitations of weight and windy weather conditions; they lean, they bend, and oftentimes fall over and damage those same beautiful baskets and expensive feeders. I knew there was a better way.

I built the Post Host™ to solve five specific problems:

Structural Stability (The Skeleton, Not the Skin): Our patent-pending architecture eliminates the "lean" by bypassing decorative composite caps to anchor directly into your deck’s internal wooden structural posts. It is also designed to anchor to solid masonry surfaces such as concrete patios, brick columns or masonry pavers. By transferring the load to the home's skeleton rather than its "skin," we’ve created a rock-solid foundation that confidently handles 30lb premium displays—even in high-wind gusts. This professional-grade mounting strategy protects your expensive composite post sleeves while providing the industrial-strength stability that standard "decor" hooks simply can't match.
Engineered for the Gale: The fixture is uniquely designed that during gusty conditions, the Shepherd Hook swivels 360° within the fixture, allowing the hanging load to self-align, reducing side-force impact by approximately 50%. The swivel feature also assists in basket and feeder maintenance.
Clear the Deck: Our 54" reach gets plants off your floor, opening up space for furniture and guests. The overall height once mounted to the top of your deck post is as tall as currently-sold long shepherd hooks.
Pressure-Washer Ready: Stop moving heavy planters to clean. Clean underneath with ease; our custom manufactured grommets protect your posts and internal fixture components from water.
The Significant-Other Factor: If you have more plants than places to put them, this system creates new "real estate" without the deck clutter.

Engineering & Certification

Performance Metrics: Our 30lb Total Load at 30+ MPH Wind Gusts rating is based on internal kinematic modeling and extensive field testing conducted in Southwest Pennsylvania (June–October 2025).

Testing vs. Rating: While our field testing successfully withstood local gusts up to 60 MPH (see table below) at our 15022 residence (5.4 miles from our 15063 facility), we are officially rating the product at 30+ MPH to remain conservative until final PE Certification is complete.

PE Stamp Status: Official Professional Engineer (PE) Certification is currently pending final production tooling. We will use production-grade units arriving this month to finalize these certified ratings and will update backers immediately if any material adjustments are required.

Installation & Structural Liability Disclaimer

IMPORTANT: The POST HOST™ is an industrial-grade assembly designed for mounting to FLAT, STRUCTURALLY SOUND SURFACES ONLY.

Structural Anchoring: This system is engineered to bypass decorative composite sleeves. It must be anchored directly into the internal pressure-treated lumber post or solid masonry. Do not mount to hollow siding, thin fascia, or un-reinforced decorative caps.

Substrate Integrity: Per IRC Section R507.10, the installer is responsible for verifying that the mounting surface is structurally sound, free of rot or cracks, and capable of supporting the intended load and environmental wind force.

Precision Leveling: Use the included bubble and magnetic torpedo levels to ensure the fixture is perfectly plumb. A vertical orientation is required for the 360° "weather-vane" self-alignment to function effectively and reduce lateral stress.

System Compatibility: This fixture is precision-engineered exclusively for the included 15/32" Solid Core Rod. Standard 1/2" (12.7mm) hardware is incompatible and will not fit the internal bracing structure.

Professional Tool Suite: Use only the provided wood/masonry fasteners and the included specialized drill bits for the specified application. Masonry installation requires a hammer drill.

Assumption of Risk: By installing this product, the user assumes all liability for the mounting process and the structural stability of the host surface. POST HOST™ is not liable for property damage or personal injury resulting from improper installation, substrate failure, or loads exceeding the rated 30lb / 30+ MPH Engineering Standard.

We aren't just "drop-shipping" a box. Every Post Host™ is hand-assembled, quality-audited, and packed in our dedicated Pennsylvania facility. This ensures that every 1.8mm cast iron fixture and 15/32" American steel rod meets our "Pittsburgh-Tough" standard before it leaves our floor.

Specialized Large-Format Shipping
Because the Post Host™ utilizes a custom 54" industrial steel rod, our packages are classified as Large-Format. We have partnered with Pirate Ship to utilize deep commercial discounts for USPS Ground Advantage, allowing us to include the $30 average shipping cost in your pledge.

Real-Time Tracking: You will receive an automated tracking number the moment your shipping label is generated in our system.
Physical Addresses Only: Due to the 54" dimensions, carriers cannot deliver to P.O. Boxes or APO/FPO addresses.
Continental US Only: We ship exclusively to the 48 contiguous states. We are currently unable to fulfill orders to Alaska, Hawaii, or international destinations.

The Batch 1 Guarantee
Our inventory for the first 1,000 units is currently arriving at our 15063 hub. By managing our own fulfillment, we can guarantee that Batch 1 orders will ship in May 2026, shortly after the campaign concludes and surveys are collected.
